Post Traumatic Stress Disorder [PTSD]
This usually occurs when a person has been exposed to a traumatic event which involved witnessing, experiencing or having been confronted with an event that involved a threat of serious injury or death.
A threat to the physical integrity of themselves or others may also result in PTSD.
It is estimated that at least 8% of the general population ultimately develop PTSD as a result of a traumatic experience.
Traumatic events may include -
Rape or sexual assaults.
War zone trauma.
Witnessing or involved in a violent incident.
When a trauma is experienced , the memory of it may become trapped in a part of the brain called the amygdala
leaving this traumatic memory able to fire of at any time, causing the person to re-live the trauma or part of it.
Human Givens Therapists are trained to help quickly and effectively move this traumatic memory and turn it into a normal memory.
In so doing , stop the past traumatic memories firing off in the way of flashbacks etc. The technique used does not require the person to discuss any of the trauma in detail. It is possible to deal with PTSD in just one session but other follow up sessions may be required.
